Ongoing Activities

School Year Program:

This year YVC! has partnered with Baobab Youth Performers for a program of West African drumming, movement and singing – a wonderful metaphor for exploring themes of unity and diversity, tfume-actioneam building and change and transition. Both our organizations engage youth from diverse populations with the intent of fostering connection and understanding. Particularly during these times of global unrest and disconnection among young people, we feel that our organizations’ goals are closely aligned. We are excited to share strategies and skills.

Our get-togethers will take place on Wednesday March 29th, Wednesday April 19th, Wednesday May 10th from 4.30 – 6.00pm at St. George’s Parish, 415 Piccadilly Avenue.  Participants will have the opportunity to get to know each other over snacks following each session.

The final “Drumchat” workshop and celebration will feature a performance for family and friends of YVC! and Baobab on Thursday May 25th at Ashbury College.

All those between the ages of 15-18 years old who are interested in participating are welcome to apply by contacting us. We look forward to hearing from you!

Summer Encounter:

Last year’s inaugural YVC! Summer Encounter was so successful we are doing it again this year! It will again be held at Ashbury College at the end of August 2017 and is open to young people between the ages of 15 and 18. They will spend nine days at an overnight camp where they will get to experience African drumming classes, slam poetry sessions, theatre and art workshops, and conflict resolution circles, as well as visits to the Gatineau Park, local museums and more.

There is no charge to the participants. If you are interested in attending this year, please contact us for more information.
